Video Alternatives are presented for a couple of
reasons. First, to show that any subject can be handled without beating
up the viewer with offensive material. And second, in most cases they
are considered by most critics as superior to the new releases.
One problem; many of these choices have some age on them. I'm aware
that many young people may not wish to view Black & White films or watch
films starring people they have never heard of. Understand, we at The
Movie Reporter are not saying that the only good films ever made came
pre-MTV. (Schindler's List, made in 1993, is one of the finest films
ever made). We simply hope Video Alternatives will remind movie goers,
and movie makers of the message, style and attitude of filmmakers of the
past.
Somewhere along the way, Hollywood forgot its obligation to show not just
what we are but what we can become. The Bible is very clear regarding
our contemplations (Philippians 4:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22, Psalms 101,
Ephesians 5:11). When we resist supporting entertainment that insults
our religious walk, it tells others where we stand.
