Eye of The Beholder. Ewan McGregor, Ashley Judd, Patrick Bergin, K.D. Lang, Jason Priestley and Genevieve Bujold. Destination Films. Thriller. Written by Stephan Elliott. Produced by Nicolas Clermont, Tony Smith. Directed by Stephan Elliott. Suspense. 107 min 1/28/00

A murderous femme fatale so romantically obsesses an intelligence agent, that he cannot bring himself to apprehend her. Depressed and guilty for losing his wife and daughter years earlier, he has shut himself off emotionally from the rest of the world. But he begins to fixate on a serial killer he has recently been hired to follow. The film becomes surreal as he tries to protect this black widow from the police, even to the point of risking his own life.

An unpredictable, voyeuristic thriller, it makes a statement about how one can become psychologically unsound by shutting oneself off from society, and filling your existence with nothing but high tech gadgetry.

R (Profanity and obscenity; strong and bloody violence; explicit sex scene; drugs, alcohol and smoking; the lead characters are morally ambiguous).

Vid. Alt. The Maltese Falcon. Bogey stars as sardonic shamus Sam Spade working for a sneaky seductress in perhaps the best detective film ever made.
